Black Hippy - “Zip That, Chop That” (Top Dawg, 2010)
New semi-super group consisting of LA blog rap denizens Jay Rock, Ab Soul, Kendrick Lamar & Schoolboy Q . All of these guys are usually boring in a solo setting but this track makes for a nice showcase. They benefit from tag team verses and Tha Bizness laced beat that never quite fully elevates for the better. Ab Soul’s little tangent about Tracy Chapman ftw. Too bad they couldn’t think of a better or more appropriate name for the crew.
