Kid Cudi - “The Mood” (G.O.O.D., 2010)
If you didn’t yet hear, Kid Cudi split from his management team this week. This is fantastic news for us because his management team was also his production team. So while Cudi continues to shovel tons of shit up his nose, Plain Pat and Emile are free to actually pass their beats to tolerable or maybe even great rappers. Ignore the rapping if you can, but “The Mood” was my favorite beat on Cudi’s last record. Produced by Emile and none other than No ID. It’s downright bizarre to think that the minds behind “Resurrection” and “Let It Go“ ended up at this point but it’s an impressive evolution. (I’ve been corrected - there was an error in the tracklisting and No ID wasn’t actually involved in this record.)
