I should to take this opportunity to remind you guys that I do write the hip hop review column in The Wire magazine on alternating months and that it’s not usually available anywhere on the internet to non-subscribers. I like this. It’s nice to still have a place to write about rap that doesn’t feel like a part of the instant and endless Conversation and gives both the review and the music itself some breathing room. If you don’t see me writing about a significant rap release online it’s probably because I reviewed it over there.
In general the mag is a good place to find smart writing about across-genre fringe music that is often overlooked by more visible outlets in the music crit circle jerk. Lil B is on the cover of the current issue.
