D. Darkness - “Bouncin Back” (Youtube, 2011)
It seems like the Chicago street rap is having a small renaissance at the moment with dudes like King Louie, Tree, Bo Deal and Vic Mone all making good to great music sometimes or frequently. I’m sitting too far away to tell whether or not this qualifies as a scene or if it’s just a bunch of moderate talents uploading good music to Youtube but either way it’s a welcome pattern. I wonder if the moderate success of LEP Bogus Boys is having a ripple effect similar to how Wale’s blog darlingness sparked that brief period when the DC underground actually felt kinda vital.
D. Darkness makes another nice addition to that list, though admittedly the sheer slappingness of the beat might be magnifying his talents just a little bit here.
